Trying Something New and Fun.....
I don't know about the rest of you out there in "Artist Land" but I truly have a tough time trying anything I am not familiar with, you know something new? While paperclay is nothing new, me using it is. I am also a very proud and shy, yes shy, person about asking how to do something. I got burned once, quite severely, asking for help with a project from another artist so I shy away from classes by other artists and asking to many questions. I am very fortunate though to belong to an amazing group of women, "THE PFATTIES" that think nothing about reaching out their long arm of experience and helping the less knowledgeable, like me! I have learned so much from these women about art and life in the art world....NEVER SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF and BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!
I guess I am rambling on about this because of my latest creation "Greta the Crow". I can't tell you how excited I am about how she turned out...simply amazing, well for me amazing, lol! I seriously think she is one of my favorite creations. I am also excited to announce that she sold to a wonderful friend and artist! THANK YOU NANCY! Having Nancy purchase Greta was such a compliment to me especially as I travel down this scary and unknown road of the world of paperclay! I think all artist type people should travel outside their comfort zone and enrich themselves with the new and undiscovered! You NEVER know what might come forth from your mind to your hands. Heck any of us could be the next Michaelangelo! Okay that's pushing the envelope a might but ya never know! Well I do know a few words of Italian so I'm at least headed in the right direction...

- I sew because I find that sewing is cheaper than a shrink! I am an "empty nester" mom, sniff, sniff, very sad! My children live all over the place, China, Australia and California. They learned to spread their wings at a young age and did so with a vengeance, lol! I also have five of the most incredible and beautiful grandchildren on the planet....just another proud Grandma! Been married to my soul-mate for over 35 years, and we still make each other laugh! I am a self taught character-maker and pattern designer and very proud of it, but if anybody has any hints on how to make money at this I would be happy, ecstatic, to listen! I have been fortunate enough to have been published in Country Marketplace magazine (no longer with us, darn) Country Sampler, Country Living and Better Homes and Gardens and recently have been invited to be a member of "Ghoultide Gatherings" which I am still jumping up and down over! I have over 200 patterns which can be found on my website www.softinthehead.com I have been designing characters longer than I care to remember, 24 years, which means I started at the age of 10...ha ha, I wish!

It's Love....
The whole difference between construction and creation is exactly this: that a thing constructed can only be loved after it is constructed; but a thing created is loved before it exists.

Family......
The family. We were a strange little band of characters trudging through life sharing diseases and toothpaste, coveting one another's desserts, hiding shampoo, borrowing money, locking each other out of our rooms, inflicting pain and kissing to heal it in the same instant, loving, laughing, defending, and trying to figure out the common thread that bound us all together. ~Erma Bombeck

8 My friends who left their wisdom and smiles.......:
I just adore this creation. How blessed you are to be a part of a group where you can both receive and give. What a wonderful community. It always creates great results when we learn and grow from and with eachother. Love that. Listen to me talk. I gotta find a group to be a part of.

Oh my goodness Pam...it is truly an honor to own one of your wonderful characters...you put so much heart into your work. I am blessed to know you!
Keep creating...I just love your positive, happy spirit!
Hugs, Nancy
that crow is amazing! I love how realistic looking its head looks...you did a great job..I just don't think I have the patience for clay..you did a great job..and sold to boot...:) have a wonderful weekend.:)
p.s. I got my patterns today..oh I can't wait to make these..:)
It makes me sad that you ran across shady characters in your creative ventures. Most of us are good people; I know you know that. Don't let one bad egg cause you not to reach out to us. We embrace you....
Ok...Thanks Pam....Ive got my 2 packages of paperclay sitting on the table intimidating me.. daring me...so thanks...cuz now I GOTTA try creating something, or Im a real scaredy Kat! It tickels me to hear "YOU" shared about any fears trying anything new...youre work is so amazing, and fun...I guess its all about how we see ourselves. who wouldthunk Pam has creative fears??? you silly goil. I loves ya.
It is funny how I tell my children, Nothing ventured, nothing gained...yet, to myself...
I am a bit of a chicken! Maybe I fear the unknown. Maybe I fear the outcome. Maybe I fear both and that is just at times, too much to handle.
I do "collect" the things I want to do or try. Things I will try in the future and then "dream" about them and then finally one day, when I have a wild HAIR, I will or do try!
It is FUNNY how we see ourselves and how others view us...TOTALLY different. It is all "food for thought", Pam.
As I tell my Children, Nothing ventured, nothing gaine. Aren't you glad you tried it.
I love playing with paperclay, but hate waiting for it to dry, to add yet another layer. HA!
Have a great day.
Hugs,
~Tonya
