The Sounds You Work By...........
After a conversation I had with my dear friend Carolee yesterday I began to wonder, "Do you like silence when you work or do you have music, television, movies or books on CD in the background?" Me, personally, I love books on CD cause believe it or not it's actually hard for me to read and sew at the same time....I know you all think I'm this amazing person but I do have my limits (of course I'm saying this with a huge smirk on my rather large face) and I LOVE books! My second favorite is music. Since I'm not a big fan of t.v., music is often playing either from my computer or my small stereo. I find time goes by much faster as I listen to something that sparks my inner "whimsy" and creative spirit! Of course there's always that impromptu interruption of cats who think they can carry a tune or my growling stomach...but when music is playing I get lost in thought and work. I have also noticed that some music can actually have an affect on the humor or lack of, that might go into one of my characters. Many artists that I know listen to Christmas music in the summer months to get inspired as they create for winter shows...this works for me and I'm not afraid to admit it! I can "jingle" with the best of them in July!!!! Notice I said jingle not jiggle! So here in my "humble" little niche of a work space I have my entertainment to keep me trekking along and inspired. Now if I could just teach those "furballs" to stay on key!!!!!

The family. We were a strange little band of characters trudging through life sharing diseases and toothpaste, coveting one another's desserts, hiding shampoo, borrowing money, locking each other out of our rooms, inflicting pain and kissing to heal it in the same instant, loving, laughing, defending, and trying to figure out the common thread that bound us all together. ~Erma Bombeck

Your workspace looks so inspiring and creative! Thanks for sharing it. I like to listen to music when I sew too. TV when I stuff. Last fall I even popped in some old Boris Karloff DVD's to get me in the mood. Silence can be good if we are focussed to begin with. (my mind wanders too much!) ~*~Lisa
I wish my craft room looked that organized!
I have to have some kind of sound on when I'm working on projects be it t.v. or radio.
Loved your post.

It all depends on what I am working on.
I tend to listen to the tv when I am working on my projects. When I am creating I love listening to celtic music.

I have 4 boyz so generally silence isn't an option. lol... I do enjoy it when I get it though!
Usually I have a radio or iTunes going very, very softly... it becomes more a 'white noise' to cover the kids.
I also like to occasionally pop in a DVD Musical. I find that I can look up when I need/want to and the music is easy enough to follow along with and not disrupt my Muse. Unlike a regular movie with a storyline I end up wanting to follow... that leads to glue-gun burned fingers. ;O)

I listen to stereo music, my blog music, other people's blog music... ahhhh music. :-) I've yet to try the Books on CD, but I'd like to. I love all that good "stuff" jammed into your work space. So fun! :-)
Music! Definitely music! I envy your workspace...just the colors you have are inspirational, not to mention all of your beautiful work surrounding you.
Why are all cats the same? I think they interrupt in order to make us take a break. ;)
I'm with you, Pam. I love listening to music when I work...and I am one of those who have a lot of Christmas music on my IPod and listen to it all year round.
I must tell you how upset I am though...it seems that we up here in Canada can't listen to music on our Playlists on our blogs or anyone else's. I can't hear your music now Pam because of new copyright laws. And so I deleted my playlist. And so all the talk about music on our blogs...to have or not to have...it appears the decision was made for us in Canada!
Other than that...I'm having a great day!
Hugs, Nancy
I listen to the local classical station because it has a lot of different types of music. I also like to listen to audio books...right now I'm listening to a Kathy Reichs novel....:)
Can I just say your work area looks like a scene from Harry Potter. "I do mean this as a compliment".... I always have either a music channel or the TV on one of my favorite stations. I find that I don't really listen to it, but I need the background sound, I guess it makes me feel not so alone.
