I Started "Junking" Very Early....

Remembering Where It All Started.......

As a kid growing up in the Columbia Gorge area of Oregon I found one of my favorite places to haunt was this hidden drop off place down a seldom used old logging road. The treasures that I would find there always fulfilled the imagination of a fanciful young "wanna-be" archeologist! Digging around the dirt and muck I would find the past leaping up and grabbing that whimsical imagination and creating many stories from the past. I honesty think this was the beginning of my love for the old and rusty (much loved) pieces I often use with my characters.
Instead of always
wanting my treasures of the past to be shiny and new looking, I wanted them to retain their original patina and battle scars from everyday use or neglect. To me the life of a piece and its history was more fanciful when it appeared to have had a rougher road to our present time. If only they could talk... ahhhh the stories they would tell....so, I let my characters help tell a story that I hope reaches out and captures an audience!
Often, in the neglected forests of Oregon we would get lucky and find an abandoned farm house or cabin and then not only could the pieces from the past create a story but an entire home would almost burst with excitement with tales to tell. I know many of you are now thinking "hmmmmm she needs serious therapy"....but it's ones imagination that keeps us young and hungry for more! I create stories with my characters and not create just a doll. My "Softees" need to be busy....that's why my mice sing and dance and my ravens read or my bunnies sew....life is not just a photograph it's a blockbuster film! Now.... I want to go junking....this is an itch that will never get enough scratching...thank God!

I do that too and my husband thinks I am nuts, lol.
We have a lot of old trails and when I find foundations and old graveyards, I can imagine who must have lived there and what their life was like.

Ahhhh...you are a kindred soul Pamela...Growing up, there was an old abandoned one-room shack near my aunt's house. More than any other relative's, I LOVED going there - so I could hike to that shack - inside it looked as though someone just got up and left it as it was - there were old books, candles, cooking pots, etc. I was just fascinated by it and even risked the "no trespassing" signs for a glimpse of history. How I wish I could come upon places like that now days! (And I did go on to get a degree in anthropology!!) ;o) Scratch on! Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
