I don't know about the rest of you out there in "cyber" world but when I see this vintage snapshot of Halloween fun I become quite nostalgic. Halloween not only makes me think about ghosts, goblins and witches but about the anticipation of a night of fun and frolic. Of course I'm a child from the 50's where Halloween was a time of butterflies in the stomach and weeks of planning that special costume. You would have secret meetings in your backyard or clubhouse (any special place away from all-seeing eyes), and share the details of what you were going to transform into on that auspicious night. Whether your costume came from the local "5 and Dime" through the retail genius of Collegeville and Ben Cooper or it was a collage of remnants from the attic or Mom's closet....this costume would be the grandest of them all. I loved being a gyspy....Gypsies were free and and fanciful! It was also a great opportunity for me to rob mom's costume jewelry and make-up....gotta love the make-up! I remember twirling till I almost vomited just to see the skirt flatten like a pancake and spin like a plate on a stick!
Ahhh to be that young again and to see the world through ageless and innocent eyes. Halloween was and is my favorite magical day and I look forward to it every year. Maybe this is why creating my humble little Halloween characters is so important to me. To be a part of a two incredible groups of artists, EHAG and Ghoultide, has enabled me to keep the magic alive in my heart and soul. I think Gypsy was a popular costume at my house too. No store bought costumes, always what we could put together from old clothes.

Oh my goodness....how fun halloween was!!! We would clean out the ol' chest up in the attic.....oh the memories!! :O) Thanks for the brain-break this morning .... ummm....a break from work....not a brain break like going crazy or anything!! tee hee hee!!

ah yes to be a kid again for the holidays..I loved halloween as a kid and changing into our costumes at school and then doing the big parade in the different classes and passing out candy...and then going trick or treating that night...and I was a gypsy too.:) I am itching to decorate for the big day..have a great weekend..and thanks for the trip down memory lane..when are you heading out this way..next year?
