Often I sit back and think about the years that have gone by and wonder what I could have changed to make this time in my life different.....considering the fact I seem to be a pretty content person I guess I would say "little to nothing". Everything that happens has a purpose and a reason but the one aspect of my life that could truly use some tinkering is my lonely holidays without family and friends. Living here in Virginia, far away from everyone Dan and I know, has been an experience I would rather have not had. I like my solitude but holidays are meant for family gatherings, friends, laughter and good food. Since my cooking skills are limited I often depended of the skills of my daughter Casey and son David to take the reins and provide a feast fit for Kings! Of course our son Chip would eat like a King but cooking was not his forte!
Thanksgiving is a lonely time for Dan and I, especially Dan since he comes from a rather large family and Thanksgiving was an EVENT in his household....Our kids now live all over this world and coming together for the holidays is expensive and challenging...so our time is spent via the internet. I remember as a kid that the only screen I would be sitting in front of was the television screen watching the Macy's Day parade! Now it's my computer screen looking at the faces of my grandchildren and their parents....how times have changed! As you prepare for this upcoming holiday remember to be grateful for the time you have with family and cherish all the friendships you have acquired in your life. I know I will, even if they aren't with me it doesn't change the fact that they are a huge part of my life. This year I won't be able to stand long enough to cook a feast for Dan and I but I have found that I can actually order a tailor made one from a wonderful market in Roanoke.....now if we could just find company to come with it, lol! Be thankful, be happy and most of all be content and have a joyous Thanksgiving!

Family......
The family. We were a strange little band of characters trudging through life sharing diseases and toothpaste, coveting one another's desserts, hiding shampoo, borrowing money, locking each other out of our rooms, inflicting pain and kissing to heal it in the same instant, loving, laughing, defending, and trying to figure out the common thread that bound us all together. ~Erma Bombeck

It will be just us too Pam this year. With 6 kids between us, everyone is going in different directions so we just have to visit with them throughout the year when possible. Getting everyone together for the holidays is a total impossibility so we are both thankful we have each other and our babies of fur and thankful for the time we do get to spend with them when possible. I am also thankful for all the wonderful friends throughout the art community I have made over the last 4 years blogging. I am thankful for YOU also :)
Love,
LuLu~*xoxo
I get it, Pam!! Wish you were nearby, we'd include you here and you would be glad!!!! There's something to be said for a 'tailor made dinner' ~ and so happy that you can enjoy that this year!!
I come from a large family too, so tough not having all the family together like we used to. My kids do live close, so I am grateful for that.

May you have a joyous Thanksgiving, Pam...do you do Skype?
I haven't tried it yet, but I hear it's free and you can talk forever with family and friends...makes them seem closer anyway.
Peace and love,
Teresa in California
