Most of the time the easiest part to my job is seeing possibilities in oddball pieces of junk/history. I love taking objects that have been forgotten
and turn them into treasures of today! Having a sense of humor or as some might say "quirkiness" helps when I look at an odd piece and envision it as something completely different. Take that old rusty lantern in the picture....you see a rusty lantern, I saw a "Jack-O-Lantern"....the lantern as the body and a pumpkin for the head, hence "Jack-O-Lantern!"
Most of my ideas for my characters come from seeing an object, the idea pops into my head and the work begins. The other day I saw a piece from a beehive spool sitting on my table. It reminded me of the pillars of a pier....from that I got fishing...from that I got a castaway and finally I arrived at a pirate mouse sitting on a stump fishing named "Not So Jolly Roger"! This is how my mind often works...in stages, but it takes something to ignite the flame and before long I have a roaring fire! How does your mind work? What sparks your flame to creativity?

Love your creativity!
Love your creative process! I tend to just go out in the shop and just start with whatever I'm in the mood for. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. lol ... but thats the fun of it!
Your ghost mousies are SO fun!! :-)

Your vision of what can be is a gift. I usually lay in bed in the wee hours of the morning drawing, sculpting and painting in my mind. If something starts taking shape that I like I hop out of bed and start sketching so I won't forget what it was I found so compelling. Every now and then I actually make the piece. On occasion that one piece leads to another. Whatever it is you're doing keep on doing it. You are an amazingly gifted artist.
Remarkable!

Oh my HECK!! Those pieces are INCREDIBLE!!! WOW! Uhmmm, I can honestly say - my mind does not work as yours does. In fact, I am now questioning whether my works at all. Oh - to have just a smidgeon of your creativity and imagination! However yours works - I hope it keeps working for a long, long time! Smiles & Hugs, Robin
I too am a fun and funky doll artist - my husband often says he's glad he can't see what's inside my mind ! I made a 'jack o'lantern' last year too ! Same kind of concept but not quite as fun and jolly as your's ... Love, love, LOVE your work and your blog ! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and wonderful talent ... Happy Mother's Day ! Patti
