The Gift of Friendship.....

I think "Beatrice Potter" shows the art of friendship better than anyone! Her unique style of color and characters captures how, many of us feel when we think of the people we have in our circle of life! The internet allows us to reach out and be a part of the lives of so many that we, under normal circumstances, would never even know. I guess my BIG question is..."Do we let them see us as we really are or do we paint a picture of who we want them to think we are????? Since I have NEVER been very good at painting anything I am what I am...an over weight, often cranky mom, who is also a loving wife and EXCEPTIONAL grandma with a strong sense of integrity and a warped sense of humor, who likes to create in the middle of utter chaos! Oh and I can't forget...very protective about friends and family! I often reminded my kids, while they were growing up, that "people" are not disposable! Friends are important and this doesn't mean that quantity is best, heavens no....quality is what thrives in any relationship. Not only the quality you choose but also the quality you give! Over the years my circle of friends has grown with incredible diversity due to the internet....Many of my new found friends come from all over the world and a few I have been fortunate enough to meet in person and found upon our meeting we would be "BFF'S" forever! I have also developed a kinship with quite a few of my customers that I have gotten to know from the internet or met at one of my shows. Funny how friendships develop and flourish! I've been there for so many of them during difficult times in their lives and it is only because of this amazing little keyboard that I was able to be there when they needed that friend.
My, somewhat abrasive, personality has often gotten me into some rather DEEP hot water but because I have always felt that honesty, regardless of how brutal it can be, is always the best way to handle any situation. I've lost people in my life that I thought were friends because I had refused to buckle under their personal vendettas and disillusioned ideas of right or wrong. It cost me some sleepless nights but knowing that I didn't compromise my integrity and doing the right thing always gets me through! The internet can be a great tool in developing new friendships but it can also be used as a tool of deception on many levels. My Dad once told me: "If you let a man sell you a diamond ring for ten cents chances are you just bought a diamond ring not worth a dime".....Never get sucked in to someone else's drama, we all have enough in our own lives to keep us pretty busy, lol.....There are friends a plenty out there within a finger tap away and some will change your life all for the better if you let them....just remember that 10 cent diamond ring!

Beautifully said. We've gone through a major bump in our friendship. I kept the faith that you would realize the truth... and you were brave enough to set the truth free where someone else's drama/bi-polarism was concerned. I can certainly understand now, the true reason for what happened to us and how we both celebrate the friendship and love we have for each other. Love you, my friend and fabric shopping just isn't the same.....

OMG...I love all you wrote and can relate to so much of it. And by the way...I love ya and I barely know you, but the thing is that when I met you and your wonderful hubbie at the Fairfax show and got to share in some laughter I knew you were a kindred spirit. I didn't know I would be obessessed with your darned PODD's (LOL) but am so glad I am.

My mom told me that if by the time my time here on earth is up I can count my really true friends on one hand then I have been a lucky and fortunate person. I have been one who has always had tons of "friends" but have learned with age that they are not the ones my mom was talking about because those are the ones that are few are far between.

The thing is that when one comes into my life now I know. It has been tough to learn to allow myself to have friends who appreciate me. Fortunately I have the ability to laugh which helps through many of lifes bumps. :-)

So even when I shave my darned head by accident I can eventually laugh and joke about it with others and be grateful for that ability. You talked about being blunt and honest. I have lost many so called friends in my life due to my being both of these. Some have said I am too much so at times, but there is a saying that the truth will set us free. :-) And then I am brought to the movie that Jack Nicholson and Tom Cruise are in and Jack yells in the court room from the stand, "You can't handle the truth" I love it. LOL!!!

I do love coming to your site to see what you have created or to read what you have written. I swear while I was reading this one I felt like I was sitting with you while you yourself were saying it all to me and it gave me such a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

I just have to tell you how grateful and glad I am I stopped at your booth that day at the Fairfax show because like I said, I feel like I have met a kindred spirit. Take care and you know I will be in touch.

Lynn...aka - Buzz LOL!!!

I couldn't agree with you more. This sounds so much like something I would write if I could write, but since I can't, I'm glad that you did.

Well said! An older gentelman friend of ours, just said to me yesterday that people have a hard time handling my honesty. Interesting, in that I think he was talking about something specific and probably someone specific. It kind of made me wonder all day what was behind that but I decided not to let it bother me! He said that he and I were very much alike in that way and we appreciate that in each other! It makes a harder path for us sometimes for sure. I do have lots of friends ~ I've lost some, too ~ and I treasure the ones I do have. Regarding your comment about our blogs and letting people think we're something we're not ~ I think about that often. I am the same person all the time ~ I think! I don't write much about sad or stressful things ~ I like to make people laugh and maybe give them insight into something they wouldn't experience otherwise ~ but I never want someone to think we have the perfect life. Nothing's perfect!! I hope always to be straightforward and honest and fun and creative and on and on and on! All the things that I think you are, Miss Pam!! Thanks for the very thoughtful post!
